About Me

Hi!

My name is Katherine and I’m an artist and writer living in NYC. I make functional ceramics and art objects.

An artist statement? I start with broken things— fragments, cut outs, motifs— and I create collages on clay. Pottery has re-romanticized every day objects for me, and I want to share that vision with others. I think of each of my pieces as an experiment—I’m interested in contradictions in color and texture, as a way to interrogate beauty, consumption, labor, community, and the value of things.

I make everything myself, working out of a community studio in Queens, NYC, alongside dozens of talented artists and makers. My primary materials are mid-fire stoneware and both commercial and studio-created ceramic glazes, underglazes, and slips. Unless otherwise specified, my work is fired in an electric kiln.
