About Me
Hi!
My name is Katherine, and I’m an artist and writer living in NYC. I make functional ceramics and art objects.
I start with broken things: fragments, cut-outs, motifs. Then I create collages on clay. Making pottery has re-romanticized everyday objects for me, and I want to share that vision with others. I think of each of my pieces as an experiment. I’m interested in contradictions in color and texture, as a way to interrogate beauty, consumption, and labor, and the ability of handmade objects to create connections between me and my fellow humans.
I make everything myself, working out of a community studio in Queens, NYC, alongside dozens of talented artists and makers. My primary materials are mid-fire stoneware and both commercial and studio-created ceramic glazes, underglazes, and slips. Unless otherwise specified, my work is fired in an electric kiln.
